I recently organised a meeting at the council office for Spalding councillors with the managing directors of bus company Brylaine to discuss extending the route of the Spalding Town Bus.
The service provided at the moment is superb but there are several areas in the town that are a long way from the bus stops.
Residents I represent have asked me to try and get the service extended to include roads off Horseshoe Road, The Broadway, Pode Hole and the Meadway in Monks House Lane, together with areas off Woolram Wygate in the Lilburn Drive/Fairview Way/Two Plank Lane area.
In addition the new developments off Monks House Lane and The Triangles will house residents requiring transport.
I also requested that consideration be given to including a bus which went to The Johnson Community Hospital.
As Chairman of the League of friends of the Hospital, I know that public transport to the hospital is sparse.
The hospital provides an ever increasing number of services as more and more consultants see patients at Spalding rather than patients having to travel to Boston or Peterborough. And as Mrs Woolard said in last week’s Spalding Guardian, better bus links would enable more people to visit patients in hospital.
Councillor Graham Dark also made a request that the bus company consider roads off Magellan Way and Hawthorn Bank estates which are not presently covered by the bus.
The directors of Brylaine went from the meeting promising to look points put forward and to report back to us as soon as possible.
