Access issue seems discriminatory

Have your say

WHILST chairman of Holbeach Parish Council I became aware that the public forum sessions – which give opportunity to parishioners to air their views and concerns – are denying access to the council chamber for the disabled.

The public forum precedes all parish council meetings and is held in a room at the top of the building. Access to this is via one steep, narrow, curving staircase; an impossibility for wheelchairs and a tiring exercise for the elderly. The dimensions of the council chamber permit only a token number of parishioners to attend who can be seated.

This inaccessibility seems discriminatory and is perhaps an issue the parish council could look into.
