Holbeach and Fenland Gymnastics Club are on cloud nine after success at this year’s Lincolnshire County Floor and Vault Championships in Spalding.

Every gymnast from the club did their coaches proud by completing new skills and showing great improvement.

Maddie Yellop put in an impressive performance, finishing fourth out of more than 60 gymnasts from across Lincolnshire in her age group which secured her a place in the county team.

Georgie Royal pulled off an exciting floor routine that wowed the spectators and won her the bronze medal to join Maddie in the county team.

But the biggest cheer of the day went to Lydia Burton who won a well-deserved gold medal in her age group.

Lydia also came joint third on the day out of 148 gymnasts after producing an elegant floor routine, backed up by an energetic vault.

This meant that Lydia became the third youngster from Holbeach and Fenland Gymnastics Club to book a place in the county team that will go on to compete in the regional finals in Leicester on April 27.

Meanwhile, there was more good news for the club when tumble gymnast Frank Thompson won a bronze medal in the semi-finals of the National Tumbling Championships held in Sheffield.

Representing the East Midlands region, Frank performed fantastically well but still has to face an anxious wait to find out whether he has qualified for the finals to be held in Telford in June.
