A MAN is in a critical but stable condition after being hurt in a fire at his home in Holbeach Clough.

The 20-year-old has been transferred to a special burns unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham following the incident on Roman Bank on Sunday.

It is understood he had been welding for work on a go-kart in a shed at the time and the fire caused a minor explosion.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 9.15pm.

The man was initially taken to Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital before being transferred.

A police officer remained guard at the scene while investigations took place.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said the fire caused severe damage to the shed and its contents and heat damage to the windows of a nearby detached house and a fence.

The fire was extinguished by firefighters using two hose reel jets and breathing apparatus.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
