Young chefs from Spalding and Bourne stood the heat of the kitchen

A baker’s dozen took part in the Rotary Club of Spalding and Welland’s heat of the Young Chef competition.

Students from hosts Sir John Gleed School, Spalding High School, Spalding Grammar School and Bourne Academy proved they could stand the heat of the kitchen.

Bourne Academy’s Rebecca Hughen triumphed with her chicken balti main course, served with pitta bread, and a strawberry cheesecake in a dessert glass. Joint second place was awarded to Gleed pupil Charlotte Wortley and Spalding High’s Chloe Davis.

Rebecca will go on to represent Bourne Rotary in the East Midlands District Final in January and Charlotte will represent the Spalding club in that event.

The competition was again sponsored by South Lincs Food Service and Ron Britton presented awards on behalf of the company. Judges were Terry Windsor, of Peterborough Regional College, and Ambrish Chandarana, of The Woodlands Hotel, Spalding.
