WORK on a £2.14million project aimed at breathing new life into Bourne could start before the end of 2011.
A contract has now been awarded for the project to completely refurbish Wherry’s Mill and build a new adjoining block of retail units and 16 apartments.
South Kesteven District Council commissioned the work and Trent Valley Construction Ltd were selected from the ten tenders received for the scheme. The work forms part of the larger re-development work on the Bourne Core Area project.
Coun Frances Cartwright, the council’s portfolio holder for economic development, said: “As long as planning consent is granted, work on this development will be on-site later this year.
“This project has taken a long time to move forward, but I am confident that all of the processes that we have gone through to get to this point will ensure that the development is right for Bourne and for local people.”
Consultation for the project was carried out in June last year.
