Women’s Aid South Holland much needed service

Women’s Aid South Holland comes under the umbrella of Boston Women’s Aid which has two safe houses in Boston for women and children escaping domestic abuse.

It also has an outreach service in the council offices in Spalding on Tuesdays (10am-2pm) which is for men and women. People can make an appointment or just drop in.

On Thursday there is a service at Holbeach Parish Council’s offices at Coubro Chambers (10am-noon).

Manager Lynn Mitchell says nationally in any week two women are killed as a result of domestic abuse – one in four of us will be affected by domestic abuse, of ourself or a family member, at some point in our life.

On any day of the year there will be at least 1,800 women in refuges and at least 1,700 children.

There aren’t enough refuge spaces, which means that on any day of the year at least 100 women and children are being turned away.

Lynn said: “It is so wonderful that other individuals and organisations, such as in this case, recognise that we still need funding and recognise that, sadly, it’s a very much needed support service.”
