South Holland District Council has warned members of the public after reports of people claiming to work them trying to sell items to residents in Whaplode.
“We would like to confirm that these people do not work for the council and urge residents in the area to be wary,” said a spokesman.
“Our officers always carry personal identification when visiting residents in the district.
“If you are ever unsure if someone calling at your door is genuine always ask to see their identification.
“Such incidents can be reported to Lincolnshire Police by calling 101.
