The VJ Day 70th anniversary is being celebrated in Spalding with a 1940s event in Ayscoughfee Gardens.

Jointly organised by South Holland District Council and Spalding Remembrance Association, the nostalgic annual event features memorabilia displays, re-enactments, demonstrations, stalls and period vehicles.

A spectacular BBMF fly-past took place this afternoon and there is also live music.

Tomorrow, the event will culminate with the annual VJ Day parade, when the Spalding Remembrance Association pays tribute to those who gave their lives in the conflict.

The event is one of several taking place across the district.

There is tree planting at Holbeach St Marks Village Hall this afternoon.

In Crowland VJ veterans are marking VJ Day, with a tea in the early part of the evening and beacon lighting at 9pm.
