Vintage tractor fun as Walter (85) opens fete

A VINTAGE tractor run was one of the highlights of Holbeach St Johns’ village fete on Sunday.

The event was very well supported by people, who were rewarded with good sunshine and enjoyed traditional activities such as hook the fish, coconut shy, tombola and whisky roll as well as more quirky attractions like a jam jar surprise.

Chairman of the village hall committee Robert Frost and his team of helpers put on the event opened by the village’s oldest resident, 85-year-old Walter Hilliam, and included craft displays, as well as a dog show with 50 entrants.

There was plenty of food, with a barbecue, a fudge maker, and the local Women’s Institute making cream teas, refreshments and selling cakes.

A raffle prize of a tour of the Range Rover factory, donated by Duckworths of Kirton, was won by Darryn Cooper of Spalding.

Robert thanked committee members and everyone who helped or donated prizes.
