We have been inside McDonald’s today (Monday) for a sneak preview of the technology-driven makeover that customers will see for the first time tomorrow.
Self order kiosks, free to use tablets and contactless mobile phone charging are among the big changes at the Holbeach Road fast-food restaurant.
Diners using the restaurant will be treated to table service and outside there’s a new fast-forward booth to improve the drive-through service.
McDonald’s closed its restaurant on October 2 and the drive-through a week later as teams of workmen arrived to install a new roof and extend the restaurant part-way over the patio, providing more seating inside and creating space for the extra drive-through window.
Builders formally handed over the restaurant to McDonald’s staff today and the staff are preparing for the first customers to arrive tomorrow.
The restaurant, which seats more than 100 people, has been divided into three different zones and customers ordering from the self-order kiosk can ask for their meal, complete with condiments, to be delivered directly to their table in the chosen zone.
McDonald’s operations consultant Russell Simpson said: “It’s really good for families, especially those with young children.”
