OUT NOW

Marcus, Dom, Baird and ‘The Cole Train’ have stood the test of time – with this inaugural Gears of War outing ageing like a fine wine.

Nine years ago (yep, that’s right) it was probably just about the prettiest game around when it debuted on the 360.

And with five new chapters – never seen before on an Xbox platform – added to this remastered ultimate version, chain-sawing hordes of Locusts to death is still incredibly satisfying.

The gameplay – despite arguably being more fluid with its new glossy coating – does show a few cracks in comparison to recent blockbuster releases a decade on, but taking out the Berzerker with Hammer of Dawn is still a slice of gaming genius that should get the COGs on your Xbox One into gear.
