POLICE are stepping up patrols at a park in Sutton Bridge after vandals put wire across a passageway in a deliberate bid to hurt a passer-by.
Coun Vicky Hills said the wire was strung up in the Royal Close entrance to the Princes Street playing field and anyone going down the passageway would have hit the wire.
She said: “That could have been a child, it could have a cyclist, it could have been an old person.”
A resident used wire cutters to remove the wire. The incident was reported to the district council as well as police.
A message was read out from PCSO Ben Harrington, who said the area would now be covered by police patrols.
Chairman Coun Christopher Brandon-King asked Coun Hills if it was definitely an attempt to injure someone and she replied: “Yes”.
