Network Rail says its response teams have repaired faults at two level crossings in Spalding.

• Network Rail has this morning (Friday) sent response teams to deal with level crossing failures in Spalding’s Park Road and Woolram Wygate.

Our readers have reported level crossing barriers being stuck in the down position at both sites.

A few moments ago, a spokesman for Network Rail said: “Our response teams should be on site now so they should at least have the crossings under local control and they will get it fixed as soon as possible.”

• Spalding has suffered from multiple failures of level crossings over many months, most of which have been blamed on axle counter faults.

The axle counters have signalled that a train is approaching – when there’s nothing on the line – and the barriers go into the fail-safe down position, which is designed to prevent accidents.
