THE date for sitework to begin on a controversial new store for Spalding is still under discussion.
The proposed Spar in Winsover Road drew 650-strong opposition petitions when the plans were revealed in 2009.
The plans were eventually passed and it had been thought that the store might be open by Christmas last year. But developers are still unsure when building work on the site, formerly occupied by Burdens Motors, will begin.
Spokesman for developer AF Blakemore and Son Ltd, Eimear Andersen, said: “We are now dealing with the pre-commencement planning conditions.
“However, there is no firm commencement date for the new development.
The site at the junction of Carrington Road is also due to have a separate independent retail unit and storage facilities.
Pedestrian access will be from Winsover Road and vehicle and delivery access will be off Carrington Road.
South Holland District Council received objections from householders in Hawthorn Bank, Carrington Road and Winsover Road, plus two petitions containing 651 signatures.
