Tydd St Mary Primary School pupils had a big surprise when they visited the wonderful grotto at Long Sutton’s Silverwood Garden Centre.

They weren’t expecting to see Santa Claus but he was there with Mrs Claus ... and gave everyone a present.

The first snow also arrived thanks to five amazing snow machines.

Garden centre boss Jack Tyrrell, who chairs Entertainments and Events in Long Sutton (EELS), will put on a similar, day-long event for all of the local children on Saturday, December 17. And it will be absolutely free of charge.

Jack said the primary schoolchildren had “a brilliant day”.

Some of the parents joined pupils to see Santa and a group from the school returned at night to sing carols.

Jack said the children’s faces lit up when they saw the snow and Santa with Mrs Claus.

Head teacher Sonya Ely said: “It was a super day. Everybody had a wonderful time.”
