A hundred years ago it was reported that 19-year-old Pte Robert Armstrong (left), of Grimsthorpe, near Bourne, had died in hospital in France as a result of wounds.

He was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Robert Armstrong and had been a ringer at Edenham Church.

Pte Harold Edward Kitchen, eldest son of Mr and Mrs A E Kitchen, of Fosdyke and Gedney Dyke, had also been killed. He had been slightly wounded a year earlier, and was killed when he returned to the trenches.
