TV CHEF James Martin sent his good wishes to a school’s Staff Cook of the Year competition – and an autographed recipe book for the winner.

Nine cooks and nine skivvies slaved over hot stoves at Thomas Cowley High School, Donington, in the 11th annual competition to find the creme de la creme.

Kaylie Vardy took the top spot in the cook’s competition with her stone baked Parma ham, rocket pizza and garlic dough balls together with a muffin dessert. She won a bottle of Champagne as well as James
Martin’s book.

Skivvy of the Year went to Chris Wright, who won a bottle of bubbly as well as a bag stuffed with cleaning materials.

Judges were school student Bethany Faulkner and Boston College staff Steve Cottrell and John Stephenson. Year 10 student Katie Giessler provided hospitality throughout the competition.

Event organiser and food technology teacher Diane Jenney said: “After the judging had taken place, all the staff sampled each others dishes leaving no plate untouched.”
