Tuesday 5.30pm: A 30mph speed limit between Cross Keys Bridge, Sutton Bridge, and the Norfolk border is in place following yesterday’s crash between a motorbike and car.
Lincolnshire County Council says the reduction from 60mph follows a diesel leak that has damaged the road surface.
A spokesman said the diesel would have come from a vehicle queuing towards the site of the crash.
Diesel attacks tarmac and has left the road surface uneven.
The spokesman said repairs will be carried out once tests have revealed the extent – and the depth – of the damage.
Tuesday 10am: A motorcyclist seriously injured in a crash on the A17 yesterday remains in a critical condition in hospital today.
The man, believed to be in his 50s and from the King’s Lynn area, was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, by air ambulance after his Kawasaki collided with a Mini Cooper near Sutton Bridge.
Police say he suffered severe injuries and numerous fractures.
The car driver, a 57-year-old woman from Thetford, also went to hospital but was discharged last night. Four small dogs in her car were unhurt.
Motorists experienced huge travel delays yesterday as a section of the A17 was closed from 2.30pm to 7.45pm as a result of the crash.
Police are still appealing for witnesses to contact the Collision Witness Hotline on 01522 558855.
