BREAKING NEWS SUNDAY 3.15PM: A man (27) from Deeping St James is in critical condition in hospital after the car he was driving left the road and crashed into a tree.

The accident happened on the B1166 Gravel Causeway, Crowland, at about 5.45pm yesterday and involved a white Honda Integra being driven by the man who had to be freed from the car by firemen using hydraulic rescue equipment.

He was then airlifted to University Hospital, Coventry, for specialist surgery on what police described as “very serious” leg injuries.

The road was closed for more than seven hours while firemen from Crowland and Spalding put out an engine fire with water hose reels.
