Transport firm Turners (Soham) Ltd has been recognised for its environmental awareness after picking up a top industry award.
The haulage business, with depots in Bicker, Donington and Quadring, was named Most Innovatove Fleet Management for 2014 by judges from the Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme (LCRS).
Run by the Freight Transport Association, the scheme is a voluntary, industry-led approach to reduce carbon emissions from road freight.
Almost 100 companies accounting for more than 70,000 commercial vehicles in the UK have signed up to the scheme which involves recording and reporting their progress on carbon reduction.
A Turners spokesman said: “As a business, we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously and have a number of schemes in place aimed at continously reducing our carbon footprint.
“Back in 2013, we were extremely proud to receive the LCRS award for carbon reduction through fuel efficiencies, so to receive the 2014 Most Innovative Fleet Management award in recognition of our efforts is a very proud moment for the business.”
Turners has developed route-based analysis and improvement tools, as well as a smartphone app, to improve fuel efficiency and carbon reduction by maximising how their vehicles can travel under their own momentum with no fuel usage.
