Tractor run drivers who are planning to set off to Hunstanton from Holbeach on Independence Day are hoping for a different celebration – to raise as much money as possible for the British Heart Foundation.
The Spalding Guardian caught up with some of the team of 11 at Holbeach Town and Country Show, who were keen to tell us about the 75-mile round trip charity run on July 4.
Ivan Allen, who will be driving a Massey Ferguson 690, said: “We want to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. My wife has had two heart attacks and two strokes and we all know someone who has been affected by heart disease in some way.
“It’s my first tractor run although some of the others have been on them before.
“You might think I’m crackers, but it’s for a good cause.”
The tractor run starts from the former Boston Tractors yard near Tescos at 8am and it is hoped to arrive at Hunstanton by noon, taking the back roads all the way.
After a two-hour stay on The Green, they will then return to Holbeach.
With one tractor being a 1948 John Deere, hopefully there will be no breakdowns.
But just to make sure, Tears Recovery Service has promised to be with them all the way.
People can make donations at the two stops or call Ivan on 07821009986.
