SPALDING, Holbeach and Crowland were among towns coming under the eagle eyes of East Midlands in Bloom judges on Monday.

A team of tidiers gave Spalding town centre a spring clean on Sunday – picking up litter and pulling out weeds between paving stones.

And Spalding in Bloom chairman Coun Angela Newton was out with her trowel adding more petunias to fill gaps in the Hall Place planters.

Coun Newton said the judges gave little away but there were hints that Spalding had improved from last year when a silver gilt medal was awarded in the large town category.

Holbeach bloomers are hoping for a good result in the small town category

Holbeach in Bloom chairman Terry Harrington said: “Those judges don’t give much away, which is very professional of them, but all in all I think we had a good day. We have got to keep our fingers crossed for September 14 when the results are announced.”
