Retail giant Tesco is urging Christmas shoppers in Bourne and Market Deeping to buy a litte extra this weekend for crisis-hit people and families.

Shoppers can put an extra item of milk, cereal, tinned food, tea and coffee in their basket and donate it to foodbanks in Bourne and Deeping St James as part of the Guardian’s Christmas Foodbank Appeal.

Volunteers will be collecting food at Tesco Express in North Street, Bourne, and Tesco Extra in Godsey Lane, Market Deeping, tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday, with an extra collection in Market Deeping on Sunday, as part of the retailer’s Neighbourhood Food Collection campaign.

Pastor Andy McManus of Bourne Foodbank said: “We’re delighted that Tesco is working with us to help stop people in Bourne going hungry this Christmas and we hope that many people will donate a tin or two of food.”

Julie Goldsmith, community champion for Tesco Express, Bourne, said: “We want to do our bit to feed those in need.”
