Spalding’s Hole in the Wall pub is again up for let - eight months after it was taken over by a local licensee.

Pete Williams, of the Punchbowl in New Road, re-opened the town centre pub as caretaker manager last Easter.

He paid for a complete makeover and aimed to give it a new focus on food to attract daytime shoppers.

Mr Williams said: “We’ve tried a number of things to get it off the ground. I was always only caretaker manager and the pub has always been for sale in spite of the money I put into it.

“I’m now giving a lot of thought to my involvement it.”

His other business, the Punchbowl, has enjoyed an “excellent Christmas and New Year”.

Mr Williams said: “It had been such a hard year for everyone I think they just couldn’t wait to get into the party mood.

“Christmas eve was especially busy and it kept on going right up to New Year’s Eve.

“We were especially pleased to see the Christmas tree had been left in the town centre this year.

“It didn’t attract the revellers to the town centre that it used to, but in the pub it was still an excellent night.”
