A Spalding market trader got on his bike to complete stage one of the Tour de France for charity.

Ian Johnson, who sells furniture near the Pied Calf pub, rode 120 miles on the route in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Ian and wife Heather were recently invited to Breakthrough’s ‘Thank You’ event held at the Royal Society of Science, in Burlington House, Piccadilly, London, where Ian signed up to the challenge.
On Friday he rode in memory of three recently lost family members and raised £869. He said: “I managed to stay on my bike over all the major climbs and, after a good night’s sleep, enjoyed a fantastic day in Harrogate on Saturday in Fan Park awaiting the arrival of the Tour proper. The atmosphere was amazing!”

Ian is still happy to accept more donations on
