PEOPLE with an interest in space and astronomy are invited to a lecture looking at Images of Earth at Spalding Grammar School on September 21 (7.30pm)
The lecture, by professional scientist, radio broadcaster and Sky at Night magazine editor Paul Money, is the first organised by Solags (South Lincolnshire Astronomical & Geophysical Society) in its new home at the grammar school’s purpose-built lecture theatre.
Chairman Jeff Powell said: “Solags has been meeting at Pinchbeck St Mary’s Church Hall but we are trying to revitalise the society and one of my aims as chairman was to get involved with local schools and last year we managed to do some work with Spalding Grammar School and they have this great facility. The science department has helped us out a lot, particularly Stuart Kilby, who is head of science.”
The society has put together an exciting programme of lectures for the new season and newcomers are invited to attend a couple but must become a member if they wish to attend regularly.
Other lecturers include Dr Lucie Green, a space scientist who also works for radio and television, astronomer Damien Peach and science writer Steven Cutts, who will talk about space craft propulsion.
