A ROAD in Long Sutton has been closed for two days while a dangerous 200-year-old oak tree was cut down.
The tree, in the grounds of St Mary’s Church by the High Street, was 60ft high, rotting and hollow.
Work was carried out by Marcus Goose Tree Care Co of Whaplode Drove and diversions were put in place while the High Street was closed.
Father Jonathan Sibley said: “It is always sad when a tree has to be cut down, but we have had to be sensible and think about the safety of the public.
“In some ways it is a relief because we were worried it might come down in the recent high winds.”
Permission to remove the tree was granted by the Forestry Authority as well as the Diocese of Lincoln.
