People in Spalding are being urged to tidy up litter when having picnics and drinks along the River Welland after a fire on Tuesday.

Firemen from Spalding used a hose reel to put out a blaze on Coronation Channel riverbank, off Low Road, just after 2pm.

The blaze was caused by sun rays magnified off a beer can onto grass and a Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said people should clear up any litter, including bottles and cans, and put it in dustbins.
