Churchgoers in Tydd St Mary are celebrating following the installation of a £25,000 heating system at St Mary’s Church.
The oil-fired, convection system is making the church cosy and warm – and it’s a big change on the cold of the past few months.
Vicar the Rev David Oxtoby said: “We have been having services where we’ve had portable gas heaters in the church and ‘bring your own blanket’.
“I think our parishioners are a lovely, resolute community that perseveres through adversity to come and worship together. All of this winter we have had no heating.
“Our efficient new heating system will be able to warm the church in something like 30 minutes.
“It’s quite a big difference because the warmth of the church makes a big difference to the atmosphere.
“We are delighted to have some warmth again for people to come and enjoy.”
The church had good attendances for its Christmas services despite the cold.
