ROTARY Club of Spalding welcomed a Red Arrows pilot to its meeting.

Flt Lt Martin Pert (31) attended the meeting at Woodlands Hotel, Spalding, to talk about his background, both as a pilot in the Army and as one of just nine specialist Red Arrow pilots.

More than 50 members and guests turned up to the presentation, which gave an insight into life as part of the Royal Air Force’s acrobatic display team.

Flt Lt Pert, who lives in Stamford, served operations in Afghanistan and completed many large-scale exercises across the globe as a Harrier pilot before being drafted into the Red Arrows.

Rotary club spokesman Peter Atkinson said: “It went down extremely well.

“Signed memorabilia and photographs were being auctioned for charity and quite a few people present were buying.

“Even if you weren’t interested in planes, everybody knows the Red Arrows. They are very popular.”
