THE steel framework is complete, the floor has been levelled and walls should soon be going up on the new Sutton Bridge Community Centre.
The £500,000 project, which is now expected to be finished in August, has been eagerly awaited for the past ten years in the village.
Chairman of the community centre committee Gary Croxford now hopes that its completion will signal the start of a new era and everyone will get behind the scheme and support it.
He said: “We are pleased with how progress is going and hopefully now we will start to see some walls built, which will be the nice part.
“The steelwork looks very impressive and I think people in the village are starting to realise that after ten years of waiting they are going to get a community centre.
“It’s finally starting to take shape.
“Now we are hoping the village will come together and move forward.”
The committee is hoping to hold a fundraising event in August, including a car boot sale and dog show. Details are yet to be confirmed.
