A slim piece of rubber and a narrow seat are all that stand between four local men and their destination – Speyer and a massive donation for charity.

A four man cycle team (pictured above), made up of Kev Chamberlain, Phil Whitaker, Mark Thomas and Alan Boothby, plan to set off on their 600-mile journey to Germany by bike on July 14, with a support vehicle driven by Roger Goodliff.

The men hope to arrive in Speyer on July 19 and say all the money raised will go to Hope and Homes for Children, an international charity whose mission is the global eradication of institutional care of children.
