Kind-hearted Bourne Grammar School students responded impressively to an appeal for unwanted Christmas presents for teenagers who are in the Amazon ward at Peterborough City Hospital.

The school issued the appeal early in the New Year to support Peterborough City Hospital’s Amazon Ward – a facility for children up to the age of 16, which provides specialist orthopaedic surgery, paediatric urology and ENT surgery, amongst many other services.

The items received were very varied, ranging from toiletries to DVDs and a selection of age-appropriate games for teenagers.

The head students plus Heidi Pleasance, who has had four periods of hospitalisation in the Amazon Ward and wanted to go back to say thank you, went last week to deliver the gifts personally.

They were met by Rosemary Hardgrave, who expressed her appreciation that the school had thought about teenagers who have to visit and sometimes be admitted to hospital.
