Sir John Gleed School became a training ground for future sports coaches as former heavyweight boxer Dermot Gascoyne put students through their paces as part of a project encouraging them to become more active.

The Living for Sport project involved students working with Dermot in his role as a National Athlete Mentor to build up skills such as discipline, fairness and respect.

Then the action shifted to Spalding Parish Day School where almost 60 children took part in 15 Olympic-related activties, including boxing, tennis and volleyball.

PE teacher Ian Billinghurst said: “It was a fantastic day and we had positive feedback from all sides on how well our students related to the schoolchildren, how enthusiastic they were and how well they spoke to them.”
