Popping, locking and house are the coolest words around for youngsters who are learning different styles of street dance.

Four groups of children are taking part in Dance Factor classes over ten weeks in Spalding, Holbeach, Gosberton and Long Sutton in the run-up to a competitive, semi-final performance at the South Holland Centre on April 24.

Two South Holland groups will be selected to compete in the grand final at The Engine Shed, Lincoln, on May 10.

Dance Factor, run by Inspired Dance, got off the ground thanks to People’s Millions funding of £48,500 and involves more than 800 county children.

Kate Thomas, from Transported, a partner group in the project along with South Holland District Council, said children are looking forward to the performance at the South Holland Centre.

She said: “They each have a crew name. Some of these children have never danced before and it’s really exciting.”
