Spalding and Boston put town rivalry aside as a pair of Boots store managers rode more than 30 miles in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Phil Belcher and Maria Martin, who lives in Spalding, started from Boots’ Holbeach store, then called in at Boston before ending their bikeathon in Spalding where they were met by staff wearing wigs and Macmillan t-shirts on Wednesday.

The pair are on course to raise more than £500 through sponsorship, part of an effort by more than 80 Boots stores across northern England to collect at least £5,000 for the charity.

Maria said: “Phil and I started from Holbeach where a reception was laid on, including a cake stall and someone riding an exercise bike.

“In Boston, a group of taxis honked their horns and we were met by the staff when we finished in Spalding.” Photo: SG031013-222NG.
