SPALDING’s name was not on the list announced at the weekend of 12 successful bidders for £100,000 cash to follow guidelines for town centre renewal laid down by Queen of Shops Mary Portas.
The only town in Lincolnshire to succeed this time round was Market Rasen.
South Holland District Council, which led the bid for Portas Pilot status supported by the Chamber of Commerce, is hoping all is not lost.
A spokesman said: “Although we have not been included in the first round of funding we automatically go through to the next round.
“The prospect of gaining additional funding would further support the hard work that is already being carried out to redevelop Spalding town centre and would help attract potential private sector investment.”
Coun Roger Gambba-Jones said: “We only had a short space of time in which to put something together.”
