SPORTY youngsters from a village primary school are celebrating after winning an athletics festival.

Children in years three and four at St Bartholomew’s Primary School, West Pinchbeck, came out on top at the sports festival held at Spalding Rugby Club.

Twelve schools from across South Holland competed, each representing a different country.

Events included 80m, 150m and 400m sprints, javelin throwing, quoit throwing, standing long jump and standing triple jump.

Phil Turner, year three and four teacher, said: “Points were awarded for gold, silver and bronze.

“Overall we won five gold medals, three silvers and two bronze, so we came first.

“I’m very proud of the children for doing so well.

“We’ve been doing athletics during our usual curriculum lessons and they seem to enjoy it.”
