A purge on speeding drivers in the centre of Holbeach has been called for after a claim that its 30mph speed limit is a “joke”.

During Monday’s parish council meeting, resident Ted Clarke complained that “no regard” was paid by speeding drivers to people using and living on Boston Road South.

The 30mph limit is a joke and speeding just seems to be a daily thing that nobody wants to do much about

Speed activator signs went up yesterday to measure traffic flows and the number of drivers breaking the 30mph limit.

Mr Clarke said: “Cars just race up and down Boston Road South, with no regard for residents, pedestrians and schoolchildren.

“The 30mph limit is a joke and speeding just seems to be a daily thing that nobody wants to do much about.

“It needs Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership, with support from the parish council, to get data on the amount of speeding vehicles and I hope they’ll take this on board to see what can be done.”

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “Police conduct speed enforcement at numerous locations in and around Holbeach.

“However, Boston Road South is not generally a road where vehicles have been identified as exceeding the speed limit due to traffic using the road to go to Tesco Superstore, its geographic make-up and the road having traffic light controls.
