Local Weight Watchers leaders have raised a massive £1,500 for Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation by arranging a Valentine’s Ball.

Helen Webster and Jackie Briggs, who had help organising the event from Ali Fox and Shirley Storey, handed representatives from both charities a cheque each for £750 at a presentation held last Thursday.

The ball, which was held at the South Holland Centre on February 20, saw 80 guests treated to a Bucks Fizz reception, three course meal, and a live performance from the band Zebra.

The Weight Watchers leaders were motivated to fundraise for the organisations because of the support their parents have received from the charities.

Mrs Webster said: “My dad had four massive heart attacks and it was heart problems that sadly took his life.”

Both her parents have also suffered with diabetes, while Mrs Briggs’ father has heart issues.

Following the success of the event, the pair are planning a Fall-themed ball for Autumn 2017 in aid of the same charities.
