Joyce Boyer doesn’t have a favourite item in her collection, but she has lots of interesting material.
For instance, she acquired an envelope containing the receipt for half a bank note sent from Bradford to Mr Dowse at Money Bridge, Pinchbeck, in 1865.
Inside, a note confirms that three half bank notes had arrived safely.
Joyce says: “I can only assume he was paying his half-yearly dues and was in the habit of sending half bank notes and when they were safely received he would send the other halves.”
Joyce is also interested in postcards, once used for birthday and Christmas greetings, as well as her Austrian collection.
In fact, she is exhibiting her Austrian airmail letters at an international exhibition in London in May.
Joyce also shares her collections and her knowledge of postal history in talks and displays to other clubs and societies. Contact her on 01775 762661.
Joyce says Spalding & District Stamp Club encompasses all kinds of collectors – Joyce’s husband Tony is a member, though he’s not an active collector.
