On Sunday, July 3 Tulip Radio will be organising an event for Armed Forces Celebration Day in association with Harold Payne, from the Anglia Motel.
It will conclude a month of celebrations dedicated to the Armed Forces and will be a meet and greet with local veterans, many of whom will be interviewed by Tulip Radio about their time in the Armed Forces. The interviews will be put on Tulip Radio’s website www.tulip-radio.co.uk in their podcast section for everyone to hear, the interviews preserved for future generations.
The day will consist of enactments of how people lived, and how they dressed. There will be war-time classics for everyone to sing along and dance to. A mobile war museum decorated with pictures of Spitfires, Lancasters and tanks will have a display of guns, ammunition, film, old uniforms, medals, photos and memories of past soldiers from our community, all collected from the first and second World Wars.
A lunch will be provided followed by a ‘Ready Steady Cook’ competition between two couples from our local forces organisations, creating food which was served during the war.
This event will give the community an opportunity to say thank you to the armed forces and will run alongside events being organised by Harold Payne at the Anglia Motel.
Tulip Radio is appealing to all Armed Force veterans and anyone who has served in the Forces to email or get in contact with Tulip Radio as soon as possible. Everyone is eligible for the Armed Forces Veterans Badge, and this will be presented to you on the day by John Hayes MP and councillors from the South Holland District Council.
