MOTHER and daughter Leila and Carrie-Anne Wigger from Spalding enjoyed the Diamond Jubilee Concert from two of the best seats in The Mall.

Beforehand sitting on the Queen’s garden lawn behind Buckingham Palace, the pair shared a Champagne picnic of coronation chicken, Sandringham strawberry crumble and cheese with Duchy of Cornwall biscuits.

Leila said: “I’m a Londoner and we were always going to stay with relatives for the celebrations. For a laugh I applied for free tickets for the palace picnic and the concert. I thought I was being wound up when they emailed in April that I’d won!

“Carrie-Anne and I had been buying red, white and blue clothes for months and it was just as well we had different patriotic outfits for Sunday and Monday – we got soaked through to our knickers watching the river pageant from the South Bank, with the family, loving every minute.

“Our seats for the concert were fantastic, more than halfway up the stand directly facing the performers. There were a few other people from South Holland around us on the same row, we’d obviously been seated by postcode.

“We felt safe the whole time. There was such a lovely atmosphere, and it was just electric when we all got up to sing Land of Hope and Glory during the fireworks.”
