Dedicated volunteers were thanked for their efforts in helping a South Holland nature reserve to win a prestigious award.

Earlier this year, Vernatts Nature Reserve in Spalding won an award for Best Wildflower and Conservation Area in this year’s East Midlands in Bloom competition.

At a meeting of South Holland District Council on Wednesday, Diane Fairchild Fenton, the council’s Trees and Nature Conservation Officer, and volunteer Annette Faulkner collected a special rosebowl from Coun Michael Seymour, the council chairman.

Coun Seymour said: “Once again the hard work of the Spalding in Bloom volunteers paid off with the town collecting several accolades.

“For only the second time, Vernatts Nature Reserve won this award and we thought it was only fitting that the volunteers who work tirelessly there were given recognition.

“The council is extremely proud of the Bloom awards and I would like to thank everyone who volunteered and helped out.”
