THE London Olympics may seem distant to most South Holland residents but if you are able to knit – or would like to learn how – it’s possible to bring it closer to home.

Knit2gether Lincs, a group run by freelance mixed media artist Carol Parker in collaboration with Unique Cottage Farm Studios at Low Fulney, has received funding to become part of the Cultural Olympiad 2012 – the non-sporting events. A grant of about £8,000 was made to Igniting Ambitions, a county-wide initiative to encourage projects for the Olympiad – and Knit2gether is the only one in this area.

The group is creating an athletic track, made up of separate pieces crafted by various knitters, that will eventually be put together to form what Carol hopes might be a 10,000-metre ‘lane’.
