Jasmin Congreve (17) aims to study engineering at Christ’s, Jennifer Mills (18) plans to study history at Robinson and Phillippa Gamble hopes to do French and German at Fitzwilliam.

School head of sixth form Joan Vessey said: “I am delighted because they have worked very hard. It’s incredibly competitive now.”

About seven years ago the school had a record seven students gaining places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

Mrs Vessey said that was a phenomenal result for a state school but three is excellent now when the competition is tougher still.
