A student at Spalding Grammar School has been permanently expelled for the “safety of all students and staff”.

It is understood an announcement was made to the school by headmaster Steven Wilkinson during a morning assembly, following the discovery of a knife in the student’s possessions.

Permanent exclusion is not a decision which any Head takes lightly but that sometimes, in order to maintain standards of behaviour and the safety of all students and staff, there is no alternative course of action.

A statement from the school said further information is not being released at this time.

However. Mr Wilkinson commented: “I can confirm that I have, regrettably, had to permanently exclude a pupil from the school.

“As the case is still on-going, I would not like to prejudice any outcome; neither do I feel that it would be appropriate, given the need for sensitivity for the pupil and his family, to comment publicly on the matter.

“Suffice it to say that permanent exclusion is not a decision which any Head takes lightly but that sometimes, in order to maintain standards of behaviour and the safety of all students and staff, there is no alternative course of action.”
