GUARDIAN ANGEL: The latest news from our girl about town...
Angel has been dismayed twice this week when she was too late to order her favourite ingredient – Cajun chicken – for her usual salad box from Rumblings in Francis Street.
Now, Angel loves this chicken but it is hotter than the sun and it says something about the constitution of her fellow Spaldonians that it runs out so regularly!
• Spalding’s pigeons have found a way to cut out the middle man – always a good idea when one is trying to cut costs. Angel had to chuckle as she walked past the stall selling wild bird food on Saturday’s market. The man running the stall had sacks of the seed behind him, and the pigeons that like to hang around that part of town had discovered there were one or two small holes in the sack, and were helping themselves to the feed.
• Talking of markets, doesn’t everyone just love buying locally grown flowers from the flower stalls (to be found on both Tuesday’s and Saturday’s market). Angel regularly buys flowers on a Saturday, and when standing in sunshine waiting to be served can easily imagine she is transported to some lovely holiday destination...
• A friend of a friend of Angel’s reported that she had unfortunately missed an important hospital appointment. It was for a memory test – and she forgot.
• South Hollanders who frequent the cafe/restaurant in Hills department store will know that there are some tables that are particularly sought after. They are the ones beside the large picture windows overlooking the river.
Angel was delighted to eat her lunch in one of these plum spots earlier this week when the restaurant was a little quieter than it usually is.
