SPALDING chef Ian Duckworth opened his own restaurant on Thursday in the Bridge Street premises formerly occupied by Serendipity.
Ian (46) has been chef at Hills Department store in Spalding for the last four years. He is joined in the venture by his wife, Kay, who formerly did the baking at Hills, and another former member of the department store’s staff, Marie Wetherill, who will be front of house manager.
During his long career as a chef in the RAF, Ian twice prepared meals for the Queen and cooked for other members of her family.
Ian has three nationalities – British, Canadian and French – and his new business will nod towards his Canadian links and be called The Maple Leaf.
There are seats for 26 upstairs, 24 downstairs and 21 outside. The restaurant will open from 7.15am to 5pm Monday to Saturday. There may be some limited evening opening as well as Sunday opening during the summer months.
